Subsystem Sourcing

Don't reinvent the wheel

Sourcing a ready to use, off-shelf module is a quick way to stay focused on your core tech, getting to high quality and shortening development time, but it can be a dangerous road that requires lots of experience.

ODM (Own design manufacturer) can provide the perfect solution for your product, from high-end lens to linear motors, from PVC balloons to flexible solar panels. The module is validated and tested there for you reactive high-performance, high-quality subsystem. You receive knowledge, training and capacity to support your development and growth.

Some key things need to be checked before you start working with an ODM. First, define your requirements from the subsystem or module. Second, pick 2-4 essential requirements and do a Tradespace analysis; in short, build a diagram or score for each product; Third, choose the top 3 products that you think will provide the best solution and buy samples for testing. Fourth, discuss with the relevant ODM, tell them about the competition, inspect the quality, product status (high runner, slow runner), ease of communication, and finally, the price + lead time. Now you can evaluate the risks and opportunities of each ODM and product.

Doing sourcing right can shorten the development dramatically and improve quality simultaneously. While doing the process wrong can get you in a dead-end quite shortly.
